Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals that Thiago Alcantara is a doubt for the Merseyside derby due to a hip injury, but Diogo Jota could return from a calf problem.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Thiago Alcantara is a doubt for Monday's Merseyside derby against Everton due to a hip injury.

The Spain international was not pictured in training with the rest of the group on Thursday afternoon, sparking fears about his availability for the visit of the Toffees.

Thiago - who missed a few weeks in August and September with a hamstring issue - has been a regular fixture in Klopp's XI this term, contributing one assist in 24 appearances.

The 31-year-old has started each of Liverpool's last nine Premier League games, playing 85 minutes of last weekend's humbling 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Liverpool received a quadruple injury boost with players returning to training on Thursday, but Klopp has confirmed that Thiago could not take part in the session and is uncertain for the derby.

"Thiago has some problems, I have to ask what I'm allowed to say! His hip, something like this. That's it pretty much, he wasn't able to train," Klopp said at his pre-game press conference.

While Thiago's absence would be a significant blow for Liverpool, Klopp was able to welcome all of Arthur, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk back to team training on Thursday.

Arthur is yet to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool due to thigh surgery, while Jota has been out since October after sustaining a serious calf problem against Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Firmino has missed each of the Reds' last 10 matches in all tournaments with a calf injury of his own, and Van Dijk sustained a hamstring problem against Brentford last month.

Klopp revealed that Jota would likely be able to make the squad this weekend, but he does not expect Arthur, Van Dijk and Firmino to play any minutes just yet.

"Diogo is the closest, trains now already for two days. Another three days and then he is in contention I would say," the German added.

"Bobby - I don't know, have to see how he deals with training intensity. Arthur similar to Bobby. Virgil I don't think that close."

Fabinho was also back in training earlier this week following an illness, leaving Luis Diaz (knee) and Ibrahima Konate (hamstring) in the treatment room.

Klopp was also asked about Manchester City being charged with over 100 alleged financial breaches by the Premier League, but he issued a blunt response, stating: "I've got absolutely nothing to say about that."

Liverpool enter Monday's derby still searching for their first Premier League win of 2023, with a tally of one point from 12 being collected since the turn of the year leaving them down in 10th in the table.
