How Liverpool could line up against Genk

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Wednesday's Champions League Group E clash with Belgian outfit Genk.

Liverpool will be looking to return to winning ways against Genk on Wednesday night after seeing their 17-match top-flight winning streak ended by bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

Adam Lallana rescued a point for the Premier League leaders at Old Trafford as they failed to win a league game for the first time since March 3, and their focus must now switch to the defence of their Champions League crown.

The Reds have won one and lost one in Group E so far this season but will be favourites heading into Wednesday's meeting with Belgian outfit Genk at the Luminus Arena.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could set his side up for the contest.

Liverpool were boosted by the returns of Alisson Becker and Joel Matip for the Manchester United match on Sunday, but another significant piece of team news was the absence of Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian's shirt was hung up in the Liverpool dressing room before kickoff in an act of subterfuge, having failed to recover from the ankle injury he suffered against Leicester before the international break.

Salah is not thought to have missed the trip to Old Trafford by much, though, and he has been included in the travelling party for this match and so should be in contention to win his starting place back.

Two notable absentees from that travelling squad were Trent Alexander-Arnold and Matip, with the former struck down by illness and the latter having suffered a flare-up of his knee injury following the United game.

Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are expected to come into the back four for them, with Gomez shifted out onto the right and Lovren partnering Van Dijk in the middle.

There is a chance that Klopp could use this match to rest players with another difficult tie against Tottenham Hotspur to come at the weekend, but should he avoid that urge then the only other change is likely to come in midfield.

Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum have generally been the preferred pair either side of Fabinho so far this term, but Milner's recent performances have been impressive and he could get a run-out for this match.

The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Sunday's late hero Lallana will also be pushing for starts, although their chances may depend on the extent of Klopp's rotation.
