Carlo Ancelotti backs Basel for Liverpool upset

Carlo Ancelotti backs Basel to beat Liverpool in their final Group B game to join Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has backed Basel to beat Liverpool in their final Group B clash to move into the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Swiss giants travel to Anfield next month knowing that a point would see them join Madrid - who have already won the group - in the second round.

Basel know what it takes to beat the Reds after securing a 1-0 win over them last month, and Ancelotti says that Paulo Sousa's side have the advantage on Merseyside.

"Basel can certainly compete in Liverpool," the Italian told UEFA.com after watching his troops beat the Swiss side 1-0 last night.

"They are physically strong, like to play well and are well-organised. Though it is always difficult at Anfield, I see Basel having a slight advantage against Liverpool."

Brendan Rodgers's Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw away to Ludogorets Razgrad last night.
