David Nugent: 'I could have joined Ipswich Town three times'

David Nugent concedes that he has rejected moves to Ipswich Town on three different occasions.

Leicester City striker David Nugent has revealed that he has had three potential opportunities to join Ipswich Town.

The one-time England international scored both goals at the weekend as Leicester City came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over the Tractor Boys at Portman Road.

However, the 28-year-old has admitted that he could have quite easily been leading Ipswich's attack rather than being Leicester's centre-forward.

"Ipswich wanted me when I was first coming through at Bury, but I was young and decided it was too far away. I ended up moving to Preston," he is quoted as saying by the East Anglian Daily Times.

"Then, when I was at Portsmouth, I was coming back from a hernia operation and Jim Magilton gave me a call and asked if I fancied a loan here.

"I didn't want to come to a club, having not played for three months, and not look my sharpest. I decided not to make the move, concentrate on getting fit at Portsmouth and we won the FA Cup that year, so I think I made the right decision. I'd heard strong rumours that Ipswich wanted me again two years ago, but as soon as Leicester showed interest my mind was made up."

Nugent has found the net on 10 occasions this season.
