Leicester City 1-1 Portsmouth

Leicester City and Portsmouth end their years by playing out a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City recorded their third successive 1-1 home draw in their final game of 2011 against Portsmouth this afternoon.

Both goals came in the opening half an hour as neither side failed to do enough to win the match.

After a downtempo start, the visitors took went ahead when David Norris dug out a deep cross to debutant Marko Futacs.

The Hungarian was somewhat fortunate by controlling the ball with his shoulder but he made the most of it by rifling a volley past Kasper Schmeichel.

The lead only lasted four minutes however, as David Nugent ensured he has scored in the last four meetings between these two clubs by nodding home a Paul Gallagher free kick from the left.

Pompey almost restored their lead a minute later when Greg Halford saw his header rattle the crossbar after Schmeichel misjudged a cross.

In the second period the game resumed at a leisurely pace, with Halford wasting perhaps the best chance with another header as Michael Appleton's side looked increasingly dangerous from set pieces.

Pompey have now failed to win their final game of each calendar year since 2005. They host Watford in their first game of 2012 on Monday while Leicester begin their year at Crystal Palace.
