Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel admits that he struggled to compose himself after the tributes to owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha ahead of the game at Cardiff.

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has admitted that he struggled to 'steady himself' after the tributes to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Cardiff City.

Foxes owner Srivaddhanaprabha was one of five people killed in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium last weekend, but Claude Puel's squad opted against postponing the trip to South Wales.

Schmeichel was visibly upset during a period of silence ahead of the game at the Cardiff City Stadium, and the Dane has acknowledged that it had been a tough afternoon.

The 31-year-old told BBC Sport: "That was a tough game not just on the pitch but mentally. There are a lot of exhausted people in there now but I am proud of this team and the club, the way everyone has handled themselves has been unbelievable. We were very lucky to know him.

"Today was difficult, coming out for the warm up was tough, the first 10 minutes i couldn't steady myself, i was shaking a little bit. But it was nice to get a win to take to Thailand now and hopefully we did his family proud.

"It has been hard, we have tried for a few hours a day to be professional and train hard but everyone wanted to play and win for his family. His family have been strong, the courage they have had. I feel just an overwhelming sense of pride that Vichai built and the family of Leicester City."

A second-half goal from Demarai Gray earned Leicester a 1-0 victory.
