Steve Evans hopes Sam Byram stays long-term

Leeds United manager Steve Evans hopes that Sam Byram will stay at the club long-term to help them build for the future.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has been told that he is there for the long haul and he hopes Sam Byram will join him by staying with the Yorkshire club.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past but was left out of his side's 3-0 win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

However, Evans revealed that the right-back is in his plans and he hopes that the youngster will stay for the foreseeable future.

The 53-year-old told BBC Radio Leeds: "If I believe what I'm being told, I'm being told there's a long term future for me and I'm building something.

"Sam is a fantastic young man - he's professional and talented - but I have to believe he is here for the long term.

"We have young players here but one thing they all have in common is a fantastic passion for this club."

Leeds currently sit 15th in the Championship table and have lost just once since Evans joined the club in mid-October.
