Wolverhampton Wanderers leave it late to edge Leeds United in seven-goal thriller

A late Dave Edwards header gives Wolverhampton Wanderers a thrilling 4-3 win against Leeds United in Monday afternoon's Championship clash at Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers let a two-goal lead slip against Leeds United but went on to strike a dramatic late winner two minutes from time to seal a 4-3 victory in this afternoon's Championship clash at Molineux.

The hosts enjoyed the better start to the game, but it was Leeds who made the breakthrough on 11 minutes when Charlie Taylor slotted in his first goal for the club after capitalising on Kevin McDonald's botched clearance.

Wolves threatened to get level soon after, though Bakary Sako's effort from 10 yards had little power behind it and was easily saved by Marco Silvestri.

The home side managed to bag themselves an equaliser with 18 minutes on the clock as Nouha Dicko arrived at the back post to convert Benik Afobe's miscued shot.

Despite dragging themselves back into the match, Wolves struggled to put pressure on Leeds during the remainder of the first half. James Henry saw his tame effort held by Silvestri before the midfielder blocked Taylor's drive at the other end.

However, Kenny Jackett's side found the net again in first-half stoppage time as Dicko smashed a clinical finish past Silvestri after being set free down the right.

Wolves came flying out of the traps at the start of the second period and they extended their advantage on 48 minutes when Afobe fired in following a scramble inside the Leeds penalty area.

Afobe was in the thick of the action again soon after as the hosts cranked up the pressure, but he could only shoot over the crossbar after good link-up play with Sako.

Wolves were looking comfortable with their two-goal cushion before Leeds set up a tense final 25 minutes when Danny Batth diverted a cross into his own net to make it 3-2.

Neil Redfearn's side were dominant after that as they pushed for an equaliser, and they were rewarded for their efforts on 77 minutes through Alex Mowatt, who curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The hosts would not be content with a draw, however, and in the latter stages of the match they laid siege to the Leeds goal before striking a dramatic winner two minutes from time, Dave Edwards leaping high to nod McDonald's delivery past Silvestri.

Wolves edge back into the top six of the Championship table as a result of their win, their sixth in 10 games, while Leeds remain in 14th place.
