Leeds United supporters: 'Massimo Cellino bad for the club'

Leeds United Supporters' Trust say that potential owner Massimo Cellino would not understand them and would be bad for the club.

Potential owner Massimo Cellino would not understand Leeds United supporters and would be bad for the club, according to a statement from the Leeds United Supporters' Trust (LUST).

Cellino is still in pole position to complete a £25m takeover of the Championship club if the Football League determines him a suitable owner.

The Italian entrepreneur's lawyers are believed to have argued his case and fully expect his takeover to be ratified.

However, a second bid from a consortium including Together Leeds is reportedly being considered and Cellino may yet fail.

If Cellino is successful, then he could still sack manager Brian McDermott, who was told that he had lost his job on Friday but then reinstated the following day as the club insisted that he had not been removed.

LUST today released a statement that disapproved of Cellino as a potential owner, but did express more of an interest in the second bid.

"Over 75% of members who have responded so far have indicated that, given the events of last week and the weekend, they do not feel that Mr Cellino would either understand LUFC supporters or be good for the club," the statement read.

"Regarding the Together Leeds bid, our members indicated they would like to know more about the people involved, their potential to provide finance for the club and what their plan would be to take Leeds United forward.

"Overwhelmingly, our members offered massive support for Brian McDermott and appreciation for the dignified way he has behaved under such unique circumstances."

Leeds currently lie 11th in the Championship table.
