Los Angeles Galaxy continued their strong start to the MLS season with a 2-0 away win over Real Salt Lake.

The home side started strongly and could have been ahead in the ninth minute but Galaxy keeper Brian Rowe made an excellent save to deny Joao Plata.

This save was crucial as Mike Magee gave the visitors the lead with a well-placed header from a Juninho free kick.

Real should have been level straight away as Ned Grabavoy played a lovely through-ball for Luis Gil but he could only lift his shot over the bar.

They were punished for this mistake when Charlie Rugg scored his first ever MLS goal, turning the ball in from close range from a Hector Jimenez cross.

After the break, Kyle Beckerman almost got his side back into the game as his header was looking goalbound, but Magee was on the line to head the ball away.

Galaxy almost made it 3-0 when Jimenez's scuffed effort hit the post after Gyasi Zardes had done well to create the opening down the left, but the visitors secured the points anyway.
