Juventus play down Claudio Marchisio injury fears

Juventus play down the severity of Claudio Marchisio's injury after conducting their own tests on the player.

Juventus have played down the severity of Claudio Marchisio's injury after the Serie A club performed their own tests on the midfielder.

The Italian Football Association ruled out the playmaker for six months after suffering cruciate ligament damage to his knee during a training session with the national side.

However, since returning to his club, Juve have performed some of their own tests on Marchisio and claims that he has not torn the ligament as previously suggested.

"After returning from international duty on Friday afternoon, Claudio Marchisio underwent medical examinations conducted by Juventus's club doctors and Dr Flavio Quaglia," read a statement from Juventus.

"The 29-year-old then underwent an MRI scan on his right knee this evening. The tests, supervised by Dr Carlo Faletti at Turin's Fornaca Clinic, ruled positive, excluding the possibility of a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament.

"Marchisio will now rest and his condition is to be monitored on a day-to-day basis."

Chelsea midfielder Ramires has been linked with the Turin-based giants as a possible replacement for Marchisio this summer.
