Miralem Pjanic nets a second-half penalty as Juventus overcome Atalanta BC 1-0 on the night and 2-0 on aggregate in their Coppa Italia semi-final tie.

Juventus have defeated Atalanta BC 2-0 on aggregate in their Coppa Italia semi-final tie to remain on course for a fourth successive triumph in the competition.

The Old Lady, who have lifted the trophy 12 times overall, matched their 1-0 first-leg win in Wednesday evening's return fixture at the Allianz Stadium.

Miralem Pjanic scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time, setting up a tasty final with either Lazio or AC Milan in early May, with the other semi taking place later today.

Three days after the Serie A match between these two sides was postponed due to heavy snowfall in Turin, Atalanta started the brighter as Remo Freuler and Papu Gomez both came close with their attempts.

Juve then took back control of the contest as Blaise Matuidi almost connected with a free kick at the back post, before a penalty appeal was rejected when the ball hit Andrea Masiello's hand.

Mario Mandzukic was involved in that penalty incident, and it was the Croatian striker who perhaps should have opened the scoring before the interval, only for Etrit Berisha to deny him from a one-on-one position.

Berisha was also needed to keep out Claudio Marchisio's drive, while Kwadwo Asamoah hit the side-netting with his attempt.

Atalanta, aiming to become just the third side in 19 attempts to breach their opponents' backline, squandered a glorious chance in the second half after Papu picked out the upright with Gianluigi Buffon well off his line.

Then it was Juve's turn to hit the crossbar through a Douglas Costa curler, but the hosts were soon ahead as Matuidi went down under contact from Gianluca Mancini inside the box.

Pjanic converted the questionable penalty and Atalanta, without an away win in this fixture since 2004, again went away empty-handed as they were unable to find a response.

JUVENTUS (4-3-3): Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Benatia, Chiellini, Asamoah; Marchisio (Khedira 68'), Pjanic, Matuidi; Douglas Costa (Dybala 82'), Mandzukic, Alex Sandro (Barzagli 84')

ATALANTA BC (3-4-2-1): Berisha; Mancini (Rizzo 76'), Caldara, Masiello; Hateboer, De Roon, Freuler (Barrow 87'), Spinazzola; Cristante; Ilicic (Cornelius 63'), Gomez
