A 0-0 draw with Japan at the City of Coventry Stadium this afternoon was enough to earn Honduras an Olympic quarter-final spot.
Their opponents had already guaranteed their own last-eight berth prior to kickoff thanks to victories over Spain and Morocco in their opening two matches.
Honduras needed just a point to join them, and they secured what was required in a fairly uneventful clash in the West Midlands.
Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa went close with a 43rd-minute free kick, while teammates Antony Lazano and Jerry Bengston both had efforts well saved by Japan stopper Shuichi Gonda earlier in the half.
It was Japan though who enjoyed the better of the second period as they pushed hard for a winning goal in the latter stages.
Takashi Usami and then secondly substitute Kensuke Nagai were denied by Honduras keeper Jose Mendoza, before Kazuya Yamamura wasted the game's best and final chance when he struck wide in the penultimate minute.
Both teams will resume their campaigns on Saturday, August 4.
