Mick McCarthy challenges Anthony Wordsworth

Mick McCarthy says that there is still a place for Anthony Wordsworth at Ipswich Town, but insists that the midfielder must earn it.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has encouraged Anthony Wordsworth to push his way back into his plans at Portman Road.

The midfielder has mainly been used as a substitute this season and more recently has not even been included in the playing squad.

However, McCarthy has insisted that there is still room for the 24-year-old in his team, but only if he can prove himself.

"Woody isn't really [in the team] because I've got Tunners (Ryan Tunnicliffe) and Tabby (Jay Tabb)," the East Anglian Daily Times quotes McCarthy as saying.

"He's got to make himself that, hasn't he? He's had a couple of double sessions and worked hard this week. He's certainly not out of my plans, or anything like that."

Wordsworth signed for Ipswich from local rivals Colchester United back in January.
