Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy sets Daryl Murphy 30-goal target

Mick McCarthy wants Daryl Murphy to reach 30 Ipswich Town goals this season after the Championship's top scorer moved onto 21 at the weekend.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has urged Daryl Murphy to continue his goalscoring form and reach 30 goals for the season.

Murphy is the Championship's top marksman with 21 goals in 31 games following his fifth brace of the season at Fulham on Saturday.

McCarthy is keen for the Irishman to not let up and continue to find the back of the net as Ipswich chase promotion to the Premier League.

"Let's not be lauding over him getting 21. Let's see if he can get 30," said McCarthy.

"To be fair to him he's not sitting on his laurels, he's working hard at it. It's a great tally for him but we want more out of that.

"His all-round play has always been good, that's always been the same with me for two years. What he's done now is added goals to it."

Ipswich are hoping to end a 13-year stay in the Championship this year and currently lie two points off the top ahead of two home games against Reading and Birmingham City in the next week.
