Preview: Inverness Caledonian Thistle vs. Partick Thistle - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Friday's Scottish Premiership Playoffs clash between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Partick Thistle, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle will take a 2-1 lead into the second leg of their playoff tie with Partick Thistle, which takes place at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium on Friday.

Both teams are dreaming of a place in the Scottish Premiership, with the winner of the tie going on to face Arbroath in the playoff semi-final.

Match preview

Inverness booked their place in the playoffs after finishing the Scottish Championship season in third place.

The hosts will take a slender lead into Friday's contest after coming from a goal down to beat Partick in the first leg.

Billy Dodds saw his go behind after Robbie Crawford opened the scoring, but goals from Shane Sutherland and Austin Samuels turned the contest on its head to give Inverness a 2-1 win.

The first leg win represented a third consecutive victory for Caley Thistle, while they have only lost one of their last nine matches.

They also enter Friday's contest in impressive form on home turf after winning their last four home matches by an aggregate 11-1 scoreline.

Partick, meanwhile, are looking to clinch back-to-back promotions, but there is a long road ahead for that dream to become reality.

Friday's visitors finished the season in fifth position, after accumulating 52 points from their 36 league matches.

Despite finishing in the playoff places, the Jags are currently struggling for wins, with just two of their last 10 matches resulting in victory.

Their away form has also been poor after winning just one of their previous 10 away games, while four of their last five away contests have ended in defeat.

The Jags will be fully aware that they need to score the first goal on Friday if they are to turn the tie around, especially as they have won only one of the 11 league games in which they conceded first this season.

Team News

Inverness could be without Tom Walsh, who limped off after 18 minutes of the first leg, with Samuels a potential replacement after coming off the bench to score in the 2-1 victory.

Since returning to the starting lineup, Sutherland has scored in his last two matches, and he will be integral to the home side's efforts on Friday.

Kirk Broadfoot and Danny Devine will feature in the centre of defence after the pair returned to the starting XI in the first leg.

As for the visitors, Kyle McAllister and Kyle Turner could return from their injury issues, although they may only be fit enough to feature on the bench.

Lewis Mayo could also come back into the squad, and the 22-year-old is in line to partner Kevin Holt in the centre of defence.

Brian Graham and Scott Tiffoney returned to the starting lineup in the first leg, and they will once again feature in the front three alongside Alex Jakubiak.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle possible starting lineup:
Ridgers; Carson, Devine, Broadfoot, Deas; McAlear, Welsh; Samuels, Sutherland, Chalmers; McKay

Partick Thistle possible starting lineup:
Sneddon; McKenna, Mayo, Holt, Hendrie; Bannigan, Docherty, Crawford; Jakubiak, Tiffoney, Graham

SM words green background

We say: Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2-1 Partick Thistle (Inverness to win 4-2 on aggregate)

Inverness enter the second leg in a rich vein of form, while the visitors are struggling for wins of late, and we think that could lead to Friday's contest witnessing a repeat of the first leg result.
