Preview: Independiente vs. Platense - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Argentine Primera Division clash between Independiente and Platense, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Independiente will be looking to clinch a third consecutive home victory when they play host to Platense on Monday.

The visitors, on the other hand, are aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the season after picking up nine points from their opening five games.

Match preview

The hosts will be aiming to add to their seven-point tally when they face Platense in a Primera Division contest.

Independiente have struggled on their travels in the opening phase of the season, picking up one point from their three away league games.

However, their home form has been far more rewarding, with their two home Primera matches resulting in maximum points.

Although, they will be looking for a positive response after losing 3-1 away to Patronato last weekend, despite their opponents playing over 70 minutes with 10 men.

While they will be hoping to clinch a third consecutive home victory, Independiente will also be aiming to continue their goalscoring run after finding the net in each of their five league games.

Meanwhile, Platense have enjoyed a promising start to the season after avoiding defeat in each of their last five games.

They began the campaign with a 2-1 home win against Godoy Cruz before beating Velez Sarsfield 2-1 in the second game of the Primera Divison season.

However, they are winless in their last three matches after a 1-1 draw against Gimnasia was followed by two goalless draws.

Despite failing to win their previous three games, Platense's unbeaten start to the season has led to them occupying sixth place in the Primera Division.

Having kept clean sheets in both of their two away league games, the visitors will be confident that they can pick up a positive result on Monday.

Team News

The hosts are expected to be without the services of Alan Sonora, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

Juan Cazares came into the starting XI for last weekend's contest against Patronato, and he is expected to retain his place in the side, with the hosts set to name an unchanged lineup.

That would see Leandro Fernandez and Leandro Benegas continue to operate in the Independiente front two.

As for the visitors, Gonzalo Bergessio and Hector Canteros are set to miss out due to ankle and calf injuries respectively.

After returning to the starting lineup against Sarmiento, Ignacio Schor is expected to retain his place for Monday's contest.

Despite playing out a goalless draw last weekend, Platense could opt for an unchanged side as they look to maintain their unbeaten league record.

Independiente possible starting lineup:
Sosa; Laso, Barreto, Insaurralde; Vigo, Poblete, Romero, Gonzalez, Rodriguez; Benegas, Fernandez

Platense possible starting lineup:
Ledesma; Diaz, Suso, Pignani, Infante; Gomez, Villalba; Schor, Zarate, Sabella; Contreras

We say: Independiente 1-1 Platense

Although Independiente have won both of their home league games this season, the hosts may have to settle for a point against a Platense side that are yet to lose this season, and we think that the visitors will play out a fourth consecutive draw to maintain their unbeaten league record.
