Hull City have recalled Jack Hobbs from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest following the injury to centre-back James Chester.
Chester has been ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring injury and Tigers boss Steve Bruce feels that Hobbs is needed at the KC Stadium for defensive cover.
The 25-year-old has impressed for promotion-chasing Forest in the Championship this season and the City Ground outfit were hoping to tie up a permanent move for the former Liverpool player.
Reds chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi announced last week that a deal had been agreed for them to sign Hobbs, whose Hull contract expires in the summer, for £1m in this transfer window.
However, their chances of landing him full-time appear to have been thwarted by this development. Wigan Athletic and Reading have also been credited with an interest in Hobbs's signature.
