Mike Phelan keen to remain at Hull City

Caretaker manager Mike Phelan suggests that he is keen to remain at Hull City, despite reports claiming that talks had broken down between himself and the Tigers.

Mike Phelan has said that he still wants to be named as the Hull City manager on a permanent basis, despite his representatives claiming that an agreement was not close to being reached.

Since Steve Bruce left the Tigers before the start of the season, Phelan has guided the club to two wins in the Premier League while they came within seconds of a point against Manchester United before being denied in the final minute.

Their results led to bookmakers making Phelan the odds-on favourite to be named as the permanent successor to Bruce but on Thursday, his representatives released a statement which indicated that little progress had been made between the two parties.

However, ahead of Hull's clash with Burnley this weekend, Phelan has stressed that he wishes to remain at the KCOM Stadium.

Speaking about his future, the 53-year-old told reporters: "It's irrelevant. It's still about preparing the team.

"Those discussions will continue. It's not that it's ended. We've had a good start to the season. Why wouldn't I want to be sitting in this chair more often?"

Hull currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League table.
