Preview: Huddersfield Town vs. Bristol City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Championship fixture between Huddersfield Town and Bristol City, including team news and predicted lineups.

Huddersfield Town welcome Bristol City to the John Smith's Stadium on Tuesday evening with just one point separating the two clubs in the Championship standings.

While the Terriers recorded an impressive 3-0 victory away at Millwall on Saturday afternoon, Bristol City's winless streak was extended to five games with a further setback versus Norwich City.

During the opening weeks of the season, Huddersfield supporters would have been forgiven for thinking that the club's hierarchy had made a huge mistake in replacing Danny Cowley with Carlos Corberan.

However, a return of 10 points from their last half-a-dozen fixtures has moved the Terriers away from the relegation zone and into 12th position.

The development of this side is very much work in progress, but Corberan has seemingly put together a squad of players who have now adapted to his demands.

Goals remain an issue, with Saturday's win over Millwall representing the first time that they have scored more than twice in a match this season.

Nevertheless, the fact that the 3-0 success came over opponents who had previously possessed one of the best defensive records in the division can only increase the confidence in this squad.

While the Yorkshire outfit are on a considerable high, the same cannot be said of Bristol City, who have dropped back into mid-table.

The early pacesetters have recorded just two points from five games, and the way in which they conceded three first-half goals to Norwich will concern Dean Holden.

Inconsistency has become Bristol City's trademark in past seasons, leaving Holden to acknowledge that they cannot afford to prolong their current run if they wish to challenge for promotion.

The Robins are well stocked for options in the final third, but just two goals have been scored in their last four matches.

Team News

Bristol City boss Holden is likely to hand starts to Tyreeq Bakinson and Famara Diedhiou for this contest.

Adam Nagy is a potential alternative to Jamie Paterson, who is one of just three outfield players to start every league game this season.

Despite their comprehensive win at the weekend, Corberan could still make several alterations to his Huddersfield XI.

Pipa and Juninho Bacuna contributed a goal and two assists between them during the final stages, putting them in contention for a recall.

Carel Eiting may also be provided with a recall in the middle of the pitch, while Fraizer Campbell is an alternative to Isaac Mbenza.

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Hamer; Duhaney, Schindler, Sarr, Toffolo; Bacuna, Hogg, O'Brien; Diakhaby, Campbell, Koroma

Bristol City possible starting lineup:
Bentley; Vyner, Kalas, Moore; Hunt, O'Dowda, Bakinson, Nagy, Dasilva; Martin, Diedhiou

SM words green background

We say: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Bristol City

At a time when Huddersfield have emerged as one of the most improved sides in the division, Bristol City have completely lost their way. With that in mind, we can only back the home side to prevail by a narrow scoreline in Yorkshire.
