Hoffenheim have survived a late fightback from Borussia Monchengladbach to record their second Bundesliga victory, holding out for a 2-1 success.
Gladbach went into the match full of confidence with an unchanged side but struggled to create early on, despite Juan Arango and Raffael's best efforts.
Hoffenheim looked lively in attack and managed to break the deadlock just before half time through Anthony Modeste, when his header took a crucial deflection off Filip Daems to find the back of the net.
Early in the second half Raffael spurned a glorious opportunity for Gladbach, shooting straight at the goalkeeper from close range.
His wasteful finishing was punished less than a minute later as Hoffenheim doubled their advantage in style, with Kevin Volland turning his marker inside and out before firing into the bottom corner.
Gladbach threw on Amin Younes and Luuk de Jong soon after and were finally able to respond 15 minutes from time, as Branimir Hrgota squeezed a low shot just inside the far post.
The visitors threw men forward in the closing stages but were unable to find an equaliser, with Lucien Favre's side slipping to a third successive away defeat.
