Pat Nevin: 'Neil Lennon must get Hibernian promoted quickly'

Former Scotland international Pat Nevin warns new Hibernian boss Neil Lennon that he needs to get the club promoted back to the top flight in his first season.

Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin has claimed that Neil Lennon must get Hibernian promoted back to the Scottish Premiership in his first season at the helm.

Lennon was confirmed as the new Hibs boss on Wednesday, signing a two-year deal to succeed Alan Stubbs at Easter Road.

Nevin warned that it would not be an easy job for the former Celtic manager, but believes that Lennon has what it takes to steer the club back to the top flight.

"He has to get them up that first season. I think he will. It is going to be a tough season ahead for Hibs. Another season in the Championship," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"We have got Dunfermline, Dundee United, Falkirk down there. It is not going to be easy to get out of that, and that is what his job is going to be.

"If they are good enough they will get up and he will go into that pantheon of managers who are dearly loved at Hibernian."

Hibs will get their campaign underway in July due to their involvement in the Europa League qualifying stages.
