Hearts continue celebrations with Scottish Championship victory over Raith Rovers

Champions Hearts defeat Raith Rovers 2-1 in the Scottish Championship.

Hearts continued their Scottish Championship title-winning celebrations with a 2-1 victory over Raith Rovers.

Hearts piled on the pressure in the opening stages, with Danny Wilson and Jamie Walker missing the target in the first eight minutes.

Raith striker Calum Elliot saw his header saved before Walker's shot from 12 yards was kept out in the 25th minute.

Hearts took the lead in the 33rd minute when Sam Nicholson cut in from the right and directed the ball into the bottom corner.

The champions could have doubled their lead before half time, with Osman Sow firing wide and Soufian El Hassnaoui seeing two shots saved.

El Hassnaoui did double Hearts's lead after the restart, scoring from the right side of the penalty area after Callum Paterson's assist.

Raith pulled a goal back in the 66th minute as Elliot struck into the bottom-right corner.

Walker came close to scoring Hearts's third in the 74th minute. His long-range shot looked to have beaten Raith goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert but the ball rebounded off the left post.
