Preview: Hammarby vs. Brommapojkarna - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Friday's Swedish Allsvenskan clash between Hammarby and Brommapojkarna, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Brommapojkarna will be bidding to continue their strong run of form in the Swedish Allsvenskan when they travel to Hammarby on Friday night.

The visitors have won three of their last four league games to rise into fifth position in the table, while the home side, who are 10th, are winless in their last four domestic matches.

Match preview

Hammarby, who won the Allsvenskan title in 2001, finished third in Sweden's top flight last season, picking up 56 points from 30 matches, which left them eight points behind the champions BK Hacken.

HIF will certainly be eyeing another high position in the table, but a disappointing start to the season has left them down in 10th position, boasting only 13 points from 12 matches.

Marti Cifuentes's side have only managed to win three times in the league this season, and they will enter this match off the back of a goalless draw at Halmstad on Sunday.

Hammarby have not been victorious in the league since beating Djurgarden IF 4-3 on May 14, although three of their last four matches have ended all square.

Cifuentes's team have also been strong at home this season, picking up 10 points from their opening five matches, and they will be hoping that proves to be an advantage on Friday night.

Brommapojkarna, meanwhile, will enter the match off the back of a 2-0 victory over IFK Norrkoping last weekend, which was their third win in their last four league games.

Back-to-back victories over Kalmar and Varbergs BoIS were followed by a home defeat to Sirius, but they managed to return to winning ways last time out to move onto 19 points from 11 matches.

Brommapojkarna sit fifth in the table, one point behind fourth-placed Djurgarden and six from the European positions, with Hacken currently the team in third.

BP are competing in the top tier of Swedish football for the first time since 2018, and they actually spent the 2020 and 2021 campaigns in the third tier, so their start to this season has been very impressive.

The team's away form this term has also been strong, picking up 12 points from their six matches on their travels, and Olof Mellberg's side will be bidding to continue their strong start against Hammarby on Friday.

Team News

Hammarby will be without the services of five players through injury on Friday, with Mads Fenger, Viktor Djukanovic, Dennis Collander, Bubacarr Trawally and Jon Gudni Fjoluson all on the sidelines.

Nahir Besara is the team's top goalscorer this season with six, and the 32-year-old will again start here, while Montander Madjed and Jusef Erabi are also set to be included.

Erabi was actually an unused substitute against Halmstad last time out, but he has scored four times this season and is likely to be given the role at centre-forward here.

Brommapojkarna, meanwhile, could have a full squad for this match, with the team not reporting any issues following their win over Norrkoping last time out.

Head coach Mellberg, who famously played in the Premier League for Aston Villa, could name the same XI that took to the field for the first whistle of the last match.

Oscar Pettersson has been the team's main source of goals this season, netting five times, and the 23-year-old will again feature in an attacking position for the visitors.

Hammarby possible starting lineup:
Dovin; Karlsson, Kurtulus, Pinas, Strand; Sadiku, Tekie; Madjed, Besara, Mikkelsen; Erabi

Brommapojkarna possible starting lineup:
Sidklev; Abrahamsson, Sogaard, Heggem; Jensen, Fritzson, Leach Holm, Waker; Pettersson, Vasic, Ackermann

We say: Hammarby 1-2 Brommapojkarna

Brommapojkarna have only drawn once this season, which pushed us away from that scoreline when choosing a prediction. It would certainly not be a surprise to see Hammarby win here due to their quality, but the away side's form is difficult to ignore, and we are backing them to secure another three points on Friday.
