Rennes claim win at Guingamp

Paul-Georges Ntep scores the only goal of the game as Rennes secure a 1-0 victory over Guingamp which leaves their opponents in the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

Guingamp have missed the opportunity to climb out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone after suffering a 1-0 defeat at home to Rennes.

Rennes threatened early on when Ola Toivonen beat the offside trap to collect the ball on the right side of the box, but the Swede's low strike was pushed away by Jonas Lossl.

The visitors found the goal that their early pressure deserved in the 36th minute when Paul-Georges Ntep fired home from close range after Abdoulaye Doucoure's effort was deflected into his path.

Guingamp improved as the first half progressed, but they wasted their best chance before the break when Claudio Beauvue miscued his shot in the six-yard box.

It was the hosts who created the best opportunities in the second half, with Lars Jacobsen volleying wide moments after Younousse Sankhare had headed over from close range.

Guingamp continued to search for the crucial breakthrough in the closing stages, but Rennes held firm to complete a stubborn defensive display.
