Spain confirm their progression to the semi-finals of the Under-21 European Championships with a 1-0 win against Germany.

Spain have booked their place in the semi-finals of the Under-21 European Championships with a 1-0 win against Germany in Netanya.

The Spaniards dominated the early possession and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute when Thiago Alcantara smashed a shot that rebounded off of the upright.

Germany themselves threatened in the 37th minute, as Christian Clemens struck one from distance, but his effort whizzed beyond David de Gea's far post.

The defending champions were well on top but could not convert their authority into goals, with the two teams heading into half time level on terms.

Germany had Bernd Leno to thank for keeping them in the game with a fantastic double save in the 68th minute, but still they could not muster an effort at the other end.

Their challenge in Israel ended with a whimper as Alvaro Morata beat Leno at his near post, meaning that only pride will be on the line when they run out for their third game of the tournament against Russia.

The Netherlands have also progressed from Group B with two wins from two games.
