Genoa are just two points clear of the Serie A relegation zone after they were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom-placed Cesena at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Adrian Mutu tormented the hosts' defence throughout the first half and almost gave his side the lead, but he was twice thwarted by goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli.
Against the run of play, Genoa opened the scoring four minutes before half time. Giuseppi Sculli found Marco Rossi with a headed pass and the 34-year-old slammed the ball into the top corner from 10 yards.
The visitors continued to dominate after the break and they were finally rewarded with a equaliser on 76 minutes.
Mutu found space on the edge of the box and, following a neat turn, fired low beyond Sebastien Frey for his 10th goal of the season.
