Clint Dempsey eyes Premier League survival

Clint Dempsey eyes Premier League survival for Fulham having rejoined the club on a two-month loan deal from Seattle Sounders.

Loanee Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has set his sights on helping the club secure Premier League survival having returned to West London on a two-month loan deal from MLS side Seattle Sounders earlier this evening.

The Cottagers are currently second from bottom in the Premier League table and have turned to former player Dempsey, who scored the goal that kept them in the top flight in 2007 at the start of a successful five-and-a-half-year spell with the club.

Dempsey left Fulham to join Spurs in 2012 before going back to America a year later for personal reasons, and the 30-year-old revealed that next summer's World Cup helped convince him to return to the Premier League.

"Going into a World Cup year, I want to get back to playing at the highest level and get back to top form. Some of my best years of football have come playing for this club," Dempsey told Fulham's official website.

"I want to help the team when they're not in the position they want to be in the table. I'm excited about being here and hopefully I can help out and make sure we stay in the Premier League.

"It was good for me to go to Spurs and play for a team that was trying to push for a Champions League spot. The opportunity came to go back to the United States and I knew that was where I wanted to end my career and raise my kids."

Dempsey, who will not be eligible to play for Rene Meulensteen's side until the transfer window reopens in January, scored 60 goals in 225 appearances during his first stint at the club.
