Preview: Fiorentina vs. Torino - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Torino, including team news and predicted lineups.

Mid-table sides Fiorentina and Torino face off at Stadio Artemio Franchi with the aim of climbing up the Serie A table.

Thirteenth-placed Fiorentina beat Lecce in midweek to remain two points and two places better off than Torino, who also returned to winning ways last time out with victory at home to Genoa.

Fiorentina have spent near enough the entire season camped in mid-table having been hampered by a lack of consistency.

Only once since October have they managed to string together successive league wins, though they can rectify that this weekend after overcoming Lecce last time out.

Federico Chiesa, Patrick Cutrone and Rachid Ghezzal were all on target for the Viola against their struggling opponents to ease their relegation concerns.

There is now a 10-point margin on Lecce in the final relegation spot, meaning that Giuseppe Iachini will surely now be looking up the table rather than down.

Fiorentina have Inter Milan and Roma to face in their next two matches, though, so defeat this weekend, coupled with wins for sides towards the bottom, and the picture may change.

Torino are the side at more immediate risk of being dragged into a relegation scrap, however, as they sit eight points above Lecce with five matches to go.

Like Fiorentina, the Bull picked up a morale-boosting victory on Thursday by seeing off Genoa 3-0 - Bremer, Sasa Lukic and Andrea Belotti all netting for the hosts.

Moreno Longo's side enter this match on their worst away run since 1933-34, losing seven in a row on their travels in a run stretching back to January 5 when beating Roma.

However, Fiorentina do not exactly boast the best home record, winning one of their last 13 matches at Stadio Artemio Franchi and failing to score more than once in any of those.

If Torino are to come away from this match with all three points they will have to snap a run of 29 games without victory in Florence, a streak that spans some 44 years.

Team News

Fiorentina's Patrick Cutrone pictured in February 2020© Reuters

Iachini recalled Cutrone for the win at Lecce and partnered the Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee with Franck Ribery up top.

Cutrone was on target and Fiorentina scored more than two goals in a game for the first time since February, so it may well be a case of sticking with a winning formula.

Erick Pulgar also looks likely to retain his place in midfield having already equalled his personal best Serie A goals tally with six in all this season.

The visitors welcomed Simone Zaza back for their midweek win against Genoa and, like their opponents, changes are expected to be kept to a minimum.

Daniele Baselli is Torino's only injury absentee, the midfielder suffering ligament damage during the lockdown that will see him miss the rest of the elongated campaign.

Fiorentina possible starting lineup:
Terracciano; Milenkovic, Pezzella, Caceres; Chiesa, Ghezzal, Pulgar, Duncan, Lirola; Ribery, Cutrone

Torino possible starting lineup:
Sirigu; Izzo, Nkoulou, Bremer; Silvestri, Meite, Rincon, Ansaldi; Verdi; Belotti, Zaza

We say: Fiorentina 1-0 Torino

Torino have lost seven away games in a row and are without an away win at Fiorentina in the league since 1974, so we are tipping the hosts to string together back-to-back Serie A victories for the first time since January.
