Rangers moved to the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership while Celtic were busy winning yet more silverware.

Celtic won more silverware but Rangers achieved a significant milestone in the league.

Here are five things we learned from the weekend of Scottish football action.

1. Celtic have their magnificent seven

The Hoops equalled a Scottish record by claiming a seventh successive piece of domestic silverware and now have the chance to build on their unprecedented double treble achievement. A 1-0 win over Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup final was not the most emphatic trophy success under Brendan Rodgers but they showed resilience to fend off a spirited Dons display.

2. Ryan Christie is a key Celtic player

The midfield playmaker has been on an extended run of starts and top form since the semi-final win over Hearts but with Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham back to fitness, even he feared he might be out of the Hampden team. Instead, he started and continued his purple patch by netting the only goal.

3. Rangers are table-toppers

A 2-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle sent the Ibrox club to the Ladbrokes Premiership summit for the first time since they were promoted two-and-a-half years ago. Steven Gerrard recognises they had the chance because they lost in the Betfred Cup semi-final but if Rangers can stay there for a few weeks then that memory will dissipate.

4. Hamilton keep digging out big results

After some heavy defeats in recent weeks and St Mirren's morale-boosting win over Hearts the previous weekend, many were tipping Hamilton to come unstuck in Paisley. But they have a habit of getting points when they most need them and did so again with a 3-1 victory that took them five points clear of the Buddies.

5. Kilmarnock are genuine European contenders

Killie's run shows no sign of abating. They were locked with Hibernian as the Premiership's top-performing team of 2018 for a long time but Neil Lennon's side have hit a slump that continued at Rugby Park as they went six games without victory. Killie's 3-0 win took them up to third.
