Everton manager David Moyes has admitted that signing Denis Stracqualursi on loan is a gamble.
The striker, who was top scorer in the Argentinian league for Tigre last season, joined the Toffees on deadline day for the remainder of the season.
"He has a good goalscoring record in Argentina but I'm not sure yet, we'll find out in time," said Moyes.
"We had Stracqualursi watched in Argentina last year and he was valued a lot more than we got him for - we took him for nothing.
"In the end it was nearly worth the gamble to see how he does. We've done it before with loan signings; some have worked and some haven't."
Everton resume their Premier League campaign with the visit of Aston Villa tomorrow (Saturday).
