Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi is reportedly set to sign a new contract to commit his long-term future to the Goodison Park club following weeks of negotiations.

Everton have reportedly experienced a breakthrough in talks with Alex Iwobi over a new contract, with the player set to agree to fresh terms at Goodison Park.

The 26-year-old has started all 28 of the Merseyside club's Premier League matches so far this campaign, scoring once and providing six assists.

Since making the switch from Arsenal in the summer of 2019, the Nigerian has played 128 times for the Toffees, scoring eight goals for a club who are embroiled in a relegation battle under Sean Dyche this season.

According to Football Insider, Iwobi is set to sign a new long-term contract at Everton after a breakthrough in talks, with his current deal expiring following the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.

The report adds that negotiations have been ongoing for a number of weeks and hit a stumbling block as the player considered his options, however the midfielder is now on the brink of committing his future to the club.

Iwobi and his Everton teammates currently sit two points above the relegation zone in the Premier League standings following an upturn in results under new manager Dyche - the Toffees welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Goodison Park after the international break.
