Roberto Martinez sees long-term Everton future for Gareth Barry

Roberto Martinez is hopeful that on-loan midfielder Gareth Barry will stay at the club for many years to come.

Roberto Martinez has claimed that Gareth Barry could have a long-term future at Everton after joining on loan from Manchester City.

The England international was not assured of first team football under new City manager Manuel Pellegrini and will spend the season at Goodison Park.

Barry's contract with Manchester City is due to expire next summer and Martinez is hopeful that the midfielder will stay at the club beyond his loan spell.

"What we want is to find a way where Gareth can come and be a part of Everton and enjoy his football, and we can all enjoy his experience and his quality," he told the club's official website.

"After that, we will see if there is an opportunity to see him for many years to come - because I do believe Gareth has got a long-term future at the club."

Everton also signed James McCarthy from Wigan Athletic and Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea on deadline day.
