Leighton Baines: 'Everton are ready to play in Champions League'

Leighton Baines believes that Everton would thrive if they secure a spot in the Champions League for next season.

Leighton Baines has claimed that Everton's style of football would allow them to quickly adjust to playing in the Champions League.

The Toffees are competing to qualify for the competition from two routes as they aim for a top-four finish in the Premier League, while also targeting a spot as winners of the Europa League this season.

Baines believes that Roberto Martinez's determination to continue to improve Everton's adaptability is key as they look to join the elite clubs in Europe.

"We are trying to develop our style into a way that isn't limited," the 29-year-old told reporters. "So there's no ceiling to it if we continue to improve on what we do - and we know we have still got to do that - and then if we go on to the Champions League, it would be well suited that level of football.

"We want to keep playing at that level and be a part of something bigger - to go on to that next level of football as well.

"That's the motivation; Champions League and silverware. We'd like to excite the fans even further if we can."

Everton meet Lille in the Europa League on Thursday night.
