Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin reflects on his injury-plagued season, admitting it has been hard to get back match fit while playing games.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has reflected on his injury problems this season and his battle to be fit again.

The England international has only featured in eight Premier League games so far due to lengthy issues, finding the back of the net just three times in this campaign.

Calvert-Lewin had missed four months because of injury, eventually making his comeback in January; however, he was unavailable again last weekend against Manchester City due to an adductor problem.

"There was such a big emphasis on me coming back. The results not being great just made me want to return and help the team but I think I set unrealistic expectations of myself and that was difficult to deal with mentally," he told Sky Sports News.

"But I am having to get fit and sharp on the pitch in Premier League games. You underestimate how long four or five months is to have out. You come back in the middle of a season and everyone else is up to speed. I underestimated how difficult it would be."

Everton will be back in action on Thursday against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup.
