Ryan Bertrand: 'England still have work to do this week'

Ryan Bertrand says that England's work "is not finished" as they seek to pick up the result required against Slovenia to book a place at Russia 2018.

England full-back Ryan Bertrand has insisted that he and his teammates are not currently thinking about next summer's World Cup finals as they still have work to do.

The Three Lions head into this week's double-header against Slovenia and Lithuania requiring one more victory to finish top of the Group F standings and guarantee a place in Russia.

Southampton defender Bertrand wants to avoid a potentially awkward trip to Vilnius on the final matchday by instead getting the job done on home soil on Thursday evening, though six points from six remains the target.

"It's not over, we are very much of a positive mindset," he told reporters. "The work isn't finished and we will try to get the six points. All games internationally are tough. Slovenia will need the points but we need points as well.

"For me personally, with a fan's head on, it would be nice to qualify in front of our fans, but we still have work to do."

Bertrand has been capped 16 times at international level, most recently playing a full part in the games against Malta and Slovakia last month.
