England captain Steven Gerrard has rejected the notion that he cannot play alongside Frank Lampard and has described the theory as 'boring'.

The duo are thought to be too similar in style to operate effectively as a midfield partnership since first being paired together at Euro 2004.

With next month's World Cup looming large, questions over the two have since resurfaced, but the Liverpool skipper says that playing with the Chelsea ace in tandem is not an issue.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference alongside England boss Roy Hodgson, the 33-year-old said: "Gerrard and Lampard, is no-one bored of that one yet?

"I agree with Roy and I have said it many times on record that good players can play together and good players need to be able to adapt and take on a manager's tactics.

"We don't want a team of individuals who want do it alone. The only way we are going to be successful as a team is if the combinations as a team work and we take on the manager's tactics."

The Three Lions kick off their campaign by facing Italy on June 14.
