Seeking to make it two wins from two in the World Cup and extend their lead at the top of Group B, England take on USA at the Al Bayt Stadium on Friday.
The Three Lions kicked off their campaign in grand style as they cruised to a 6-2 victory over Iran on Monday and condemned Carlos Queiroz's side to their heaviest World Cup defeat.
Having missed out on Russia four years ago, USA were denied a winning return to the World Cup as Gareth Bale cancelled out Timothy Weah's first-half opener to hand Wales a 1-1 draw when the nations met on Monday.
While Gregg Berhalter's men will set out to pick up three points and strengthen their hopes of a place in the knockout stages, Friday's contest pits them against an England side who have won eight of their last 11 meetings.
They last met in a friendly fixture in November 2018, when Jesse Lingard, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Callum Wilson all found the back of the net to hand the Three Lions a comfortable 3-0 victory at Wembley.
However, USA are unbeaten in their two World Cup matches versus Gareth Southgate's side, claiming a 1-1 draw when they faced off in 2010, 60 years after a 1-0 win in 1950, which was the very first-ever encounter between the sides.
That was also their first of two meetings at the World Cup, and it remains one of the greatest upsets in the competition's history as a USA side made up of amateurs stunned an England team who had for a long time assumed that they were the best team in the world as the inventors of the sport.
Indeed, the size of the upset was so great that, when the score was fed back to newspapers in England, some printed it as 10-1 instead of 0-1 as they presumed there had been a mistake - 10-1 being regarded as a more likely scoreline than the actual one.
The Stars and Stripes' second and only other victory over England came in the 1993 US Cup, when Tom Dooley and Alexi Lalas scored either side of the half-time interval at the Foxboro Stadium.
The biggest result in the history of this fixture came in a friendly meeting in May 1964, when England stormed to a 10-0 victory, with Roger Hunt and Fred Pickering scoring hat-tricks in that encounter.
