England have lost Jack Grealish to suspension ahead of the conclusion of their doomed Nations League campaign against Germany at Wembley on Monday night.
The Three Lions have been relegated from League A Group 3 following Friday's 1-0 loss to Italy, where Grealish picked up his second booking of the competition.
The Manchester City man will therefore not be available for matchday six, but clubmate John Stones is back from a ban of his own and should come into contention for a start.
Ben Chilwell, Jordan Henderson, Marc Guehi and Ivan Toney are all in the squad for this game after missing out last week, but Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fikayo Tomori, Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse have now been cut from the ranks.
Stones could end up taking the place of good friend Kyle Walker, who did not cover himself in glory for Italy's winner at San Siro, while Eric Dier and Harry Maguire might complete the backline.
Nick Pope was given the nod in goal on Friday, but Aaron Ramsdale will hope to earn an opportunity to impress this week, while Kieran Trippier and Ben Chilwell can provide fresh legs out wide.
Bukayo Saka started on the left at San Siro, but the Arsenal man notably struggled to adapt and was hauled off after 71 minutes for Luke Shaw, so he is unlikely to start unless Southgate reverts to a four-man backline and sticks Saka in his favoured right-wing spot.
Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice are expected to start in the engine room as Henderson takes up a spot on the bench following his hamstring issue, and Mason Mount is in with a strong chance of displacing Phil Foden.
Toney will now be considered for his debut after failing to make the squad on Friday, but Gareth Southgate should rely on Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling to provide attacking impetus from the off, as England aim to avoid going four successive games without a goal.
England possible starting lineup: Ramsdale; Stones, Dier, Maguire; Trippier, Rice, Bellingham, Chilwell; Mount; Kane, Sterling
