England boss Fabio Capello confirms that John Terry will captain the side against Sweden on Tuesday.

John Terry will captain England against Sweden on Tuesday, manager Fabio Capello has confirmed.

The Chelsea defender will start on the bench against Spain on Saturday as Frank Lampard has been named as skipper for the match at Wembley.

However, Capello has denied claims that Terry has been left out due to the recent racism row involving Anton Ferdinand.

"I want John to remain as captain, he will lead out the team against Sweden and start against them," said Capello.

"He is the team leader. He has always been really important in the dressing room.

"I spoke with him privately. I told him it is not for the other things that he will not play against Spain. These three days we have been together have been really good. Also with the other players, everything was normal."

Meanwhile, Capello revealed that Phil Jones would start in midfield against the World and European champions.
