John Terry faces being stripped of the England captaincy before the weekend, according to reports.

The FA expected to announce that John Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy before the weekend, according to reports.

David Bernstein has met with board members to discuss Terry's position as captain and the BBC has claimed that the majority view is that the Chelsea defender should step down.

The 31-year-old will stand trial in July over the alleged racial abuse of Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League match last October.

Despite pleading not guilty to the charge, Bernstein is now expected to meet with England manager Fabio Capello to discuss Terry's role as captain.

Capello has previously stated that Terry should be able to carry on as captain until proven guilty.

Terry has played for England 72 times.
