Ralf Rangnick: 'No contact from FA about England job'

Ralf Rangnick insists that he has not been approached by the FA regarding the England job, despite reports that the German is a contender for the position.

Ralf Rangnick has insisted that he has not been approached by the Football Association about potentially becoming the next England manager.

The 58-year-old, who works as director of sports at Bundesliga club Red Bull Leipzig, has been reported as a contender for the vacancy.

The FA is looking for a new manager after Sam Allardyce was forced to leave the role after being secretly filmed by The Telegraph allegedly giving advice on how to "get around" the ban on third-party ownership of players.

Rangnick was considered for the position prior to Allardyce's appointment, and according to Sky Sports News, FA technical director Dan Ashworth is keen to speak to the German again.

When asked about the job, Rangnick told Sky Germany: "At the moment there has been no contact - no approach.

"It's right that I received a phone call from Dan Ashworth a few days after the Euro 2016 finals. He wanted me to become the England national team coach.

"I went there and it was a good meeting, but on the one hand they told me that the board preferred an English coach."

Allardyce, who replaced Roy Hodgson, lasted just 67 days in the job.
