Roy Hodgson gives Daniel Sturridge England challenge

Roy Hodgson insists that Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge can replicate his club form at international level if he stays fit.

England manager Roy Hodgson has thrown down a challenge to Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge to replicate his club form at international level.

Sturridge has 21 goals for the Reds so far this season but has largely been absent from the England team under Hodgson, with the forward starting just four of his 24 games in charge of the national side which has included several injury withdrawals.

However, the England coach insists that it is up to the player to produce that form for the Three Lions and believes that Sturridge will reach that level if he is fit.

Hodgson is by the Sunday People as saying: "There are an awful lot of supporters who will be excited to see him play as well for his country as he is playing for Liverpool.

"He is a talented goalscorer but it's important he remains fit. If he does, I'm confident he will produce.

"He should be looking at getting his 50 caps and when he gets 50, he should be looking for his 100 caps because he has got the talent. No one would deny that talent is there."

Sturridge played in Liverpool's 3-0 win at Southampton on Saturday.
