Greg Dyke: 'England interested in bidding for Euro 2028'

Greg Dyke confirms that England are still interested in hosting the European Championships in 2028.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has reiterated that England are interested in launching a bid to host the European Championships in 2028.

The businessman ruled out a bid for the 2026 World Cup, and any other FIFA tournament while Sepp Blatter remains in charge of the governing body, but pledged his support to UEFA.

"The truth is, the chances of the 2026 World Cup being in Europe are virtually nil; Sepp Blatter has still got a good chance of being there when it is decided and we certainly won't bid if Blatter is there," Dyke told PA.

"Our policy is that we won't bid for almost any tournaments while the current leadership is there.

"We would much more interested in bidding for Euro 2028 because we like UEFA but it is a very long time away still."

England is one of 13 countries that will host matches at Euro 2020, with the semi-finals of the competition due to take place at Wembley Stadium.

The USA are said to be the frontrunners to host the World Cup finals in 2026.
