Late Christophe Berra header wins it for Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town come back from an early goal down to win 2-1 against Derby County.

Ipswich Town came back from a goal down to beat Derby County 2-1 at Portman Road in the Championship this evening.

Patrick Bamford opened the scoring after just 37 seconds when he turned home Craig Bryson's low cross with his left foot.

The same combination nearly opened up Ipswich again on 26 minutes, but Bamford's effort was saved by Dean Gerken, before Chris Martin's well-struck effort was blocked two minutes later.

The visitors were largely in control throughout the first half and Johnny Russell saw a shot blocked after good work from Jeff Hendrick in the build-up.

Craig Forsyth delivered a dangerous cross towards the end of the half, but the centre evaded everyone including the goalkeeper before eventually going behind for a goal kick.

Jonathan Williams restored parity after the break when he hit a right-footed effort from all of 30 yards after Aaron Cresswell had rolled the free kick to him on 67 minutes.

Bamford nearly gave his side the lead once more when his deft finish went just wide of the post as the game became stretched, with both teams searching for the lead.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake came close to giving Ipswich the lead when he headed Frank Nouble's cross narrowly over the bar with 10 minutes to go.

With the game looking like a 1-1 draw, Christophe Berra rose highest from Cresswell's delivery to net the winning goal late on for the home side.
