Jeff Hendrick scored the only goal of the game as Derby County defeated League Two side Burton Albion 1-0 in their penultimate pre-season friendly at the Pirelli Stadium this evening.

The Republic of Ireland international headed home from close range after Johnny Russell's free kick had hit the woodwork in the dying moments of the first half.

Hendrick and Russell both struck the woodwork in an entertaining second half, although Steve McClaren's side could not extend their lead further.

Burton's best chance came through substitute Dominic Knowles, but he saw his low effort from inside the Derby penalty area well saved by Lee Grant on the hour mark.
