Derby County seek talks with Steve McClaren over managerial vacancy?

Derby County reportedly ask Queens Park Rangers for permission to speak to coach Steve McClaren over becoming the new manager of the Rams.

Derby County have reportedly contacted Queens Park Rangers for permission to speak to Steve McClaren about becoming the new manager at Pride Park.

The former England boss, who works as a first-team coach at Loftus Road, has been tipped to join the Rams following the dismissal of Nigel Clough on Saturday.

McClaren could be appointed as Clough's successor before Derby take on Ipswich Town on Tuesday, but he is unlikely to be in charge of the fixture, according to BBC Sport.

McClaren spent four years as assistant manager at Derby before joining Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 1999.
