Tractor Boys midfielder Jonathan Douglas, who was involved in the incident, posted a message on Twitter saying that he was "absolutely gutted" by the turn of events.
"In no way did I intend on hurting him," Douglas wrote. "I was just trying to block his shot and help my team. I did apologise to him on the pitch and would like to put it on record again that am I sorry. I truly wish him a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with George and hope he'll be back as soon as possible for Derby who I also wish good luck to in their playoff campaign."
