The visitors should have scored early on when Fraizer Campbell headed over a cross from Peter Whittingham.

Cameron Jerome gave Crystal Palace the lead when he headed in Jason Puncheon's cross.

Barry Bannan then worked himself into good shooting position by cutting inside from the right, but his long-range effort sailed wide of the goal.

After the break, Palace came close to scoring their second when Jerome saw his stinging shot pushed wide by the keeper.

Minutes later they extended their advantage. A cross from Bannan bounced kindly for Marouane Chamakh, who controlled the ball on his chest, before firing a low effort into the bottom corner.

The visitors were unable to find a way back into the game, as Palace held on to a crucial victory in their battle against relegation.
