Report: Dan Petrescu new frontrunner for Crystal Palace job

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish holds talks with former Chelsea defender Dan Petrescu regarding the vacant managerial position at Selhurst Park.

Former Chelsea defender Dan Petrescu is apparently the latest candidate to have held talks with Crystal Palace over the club's managerial vacancy.

Palace chairman Steve Parish is understood to have flown to Russia this week for discussions with the Dinamo Moscow boss, who comes recommended by new Eagles director of football Iain Moody.

Petrescu has built himself quite a reputation in Eastern Europe during his decade in the dugout, in which he has managed six clubs, and he is now ready to test himself in the Premier League.

According to The Mirror, the 45-year-old Romanian is the new frontrunner for the Palace post, but Parish has also spoken to Iain Dowie about a potential return to Selhurst Park.

Dowie was Eagles manager the last time they played in the Premier League, but could not prevent them from being relegated on the final day of the 2004-2005 season.

Ex-Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has also been interviewed for the position, which has been vacant since Ian Holloway left the club by mutual consent three weeks ago.
